Lesson One: Greetings and Introductions (Part One)

To start any conversation formally or generally, the most commonly used greeting word is:

👋 Hallo!

Hello!

To greet informally with friends and relatives:

🙂 Hi!

Hi!

To greet someone in the morning until noon:

🌅 Guten Morgen.

Good morning.

And when greeting in the evening and at night, we use the famous evening phrase:

🌙 Guten Abend.

Good evening.

To ask a new person you are meeting for the first time about their name:

👤 Wie heißt du?

What is your name?

To introduce your own name, we use a phrase followed by the name:

🙋 Ich heiße Adam.

My name is Adam.

To express your pleasure at meeting someone for the first time:

🤝 Freut mich, dich kennenzulernen.

Nice to meet you.

The polite reply to the phrase of pleasure at meeting:

😊 Mich auch, dich kennenzulernen.

Nice to meet you too.

To find out a person’s country or nationality:

🌍 Woher kommst du?

Where are you from?

To answer and state your home country:

🇩🇪 Ich komme aus Deutschland.

I am from Germany.
